Smoothies!!! | Soy-Free Vegan

March 4, 2013 by Shannon

Life’s been CRAAAAZY lately!!! The last couple of weeks have been ridiculously busy. So busy that I’ve barely been able to find time to eat! I’ve found myself grabbing bottled smoothies left and right so I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you!

Now before I go into this review, more about let me just clarify that in NO WAY do I consider these healthy meal replacements. I’m fully aware that they are loaded with calories and sugar and that nothing beats a fresh fruit smoothie at home full of organic ingredients. Speaking of, you can peep my homegirl Sunny making some of her favorite smoothie and juice recipes on this AWESOME website, BlendedRecipes.com!

But when you’re on the run and in a pinch, these will tide you over until your next solid meal.

Columbia Gorge – Mango Cogo Smoothie

This one was my FAVORITE! I love anything with a tropical twist. Seriously, stick me on a deserted island with a gang of coconuts and I’m a happy camper. It was thick, creamy, sweet and had a hint of citrus mixed with coconut. YUM.

Odwalla – Pear Berry Jive

This little guy was super fragrant. I expected a really intense flavor but was pleasantly surprised at it’s light apple-y flavor. I wouldn’t really classify it as a smoothie since it had a more watery, juice-like texture. Not only a refreshing taste, but a refreshing claim of no GMO’s!

Nuwi – Quinoa Blueberry Smoothie

I haven’t seen Nuwi in stores yet but I was lucky enough to get my hands on a couple from the company that produces it. Nuwi drinks like a meal. Super thick, almost yogurt-like. I was into the blueberry flavor but the hubs found it to be a little too artificial tasting for his liking and said it left a slightly bitter aftertaste. ‘Healthiest’ and most filling meal replacement out of all of them overall. Best part? It’s organic!

Evolution – Apple Berry Fiber

I took one sip, looked at the bottle and thought, “what the hell is that?” Expecting an apple-berry party in my mouth, I was thrown off by the strong beet? flavor. Whatever they use in their ‘soluble vegetable fiber’ is super strong. The consistency falls somewhere between juice and a smoothie. It was kinda tart and tasty overall. My only recommendation is re-naming it. It tastes more like a veggie drink than a fruit one. What’s great about this brand is that they are available at Starbucks… on every corner.

Naked – Strawberry Banana

I’m not gonna lie, I bought it because it said “Naked” on it and I’m easily amused. I think Starbucks used to carry Naked before Evolution swooped in. At least, in my area. They are probably one of the biggest, readily available, well-known brands and for good reason. Not too long ago, Naked was being sued for labeling their products non-GMO when in fact, they were allegedly using GMO ingredients. Tsk, tsk… All drama aside, it was super yummy. Thick, tart and very strawberryish. Reminded me of my childhood for some reason.
